The Port Neptune Regatta is the second longest running Scout Regatta in Australia, hosted by 2nd Abbotsford Sea Scouts. It started in 1948 to give Scouts experience in upper harbour and river sailing. The Regatta is held on the Parramatta River at Abbotsford. Scouts from NSW and the ACT are welcome to camp overnight and participate in the sailing, canoeing and other fun events. Cub and Joey/Parent canoe races are held on Sunday morning.

Schedule

  • Friday, 18 September: Park opens from 6pm for campers.
  • Saturday, 19 September
    • Scouts/Venturers - Skippers Breifing: 1pm
    • Scouts/Venturers - Port Neptune Sheild race start: 2pm
    • Scouts/Venturers - Fun Run: 5pm
    • All sections - Moonlight Cinema starts 7pm
  • Sunday, 20nd September
    • Scouts/Venturers - Canoeing: 8am - 10am (registration from 7:30am)
    • Scouts/Venturers - Skippers Breifing 10am
    • Scouts/Venturers  - Port Neptune Cup Race Start: 11am - 12pm
    • Joeys/Cubs - Canoeing racing from 10am onwards (registration from 9am) 

 

Key information:

  • The Scout Law is the law of this event
  • The sailing events are for youth that have prior sailing experience. Youth will not be taught to sail.
  • Scouts that are sailing must bring their own sail boat (sail boats not supplied). 
  • Canoes will be supplied (no need to bring your own).
  • For Cubs and Joeys we will also have sufficient fun-sized Kayaks to use (no need to bring your own, in addition to canoes).
  • BYO PFDs Scouts/Venturers, limited number available for Joey/Cub canoe events
  • It is mandatory for all youth to wear a PFD in the water - no exceptions.
  • It is mandatory for all youth to wear water shoes in the water - no exceptions.
  • There are access points to Quarantine reserve from Spring Street and  Checkley Street should you have heavy items or need access to load Leader kayaks/canoes. Spring Street is the best access for trailers with camping / sail boats. 
  • All youth require own group supervision.

Sailing:

  • AYF Rules apply; the Commodore’s decision is final in all cases.
  • The AYF 1995 Yardstick system applies:
  • Each class of boating is allocated a rating (YS) based on records over a wide range of conditions. The slower the boat, the higher the YS.
    • Actual race times are adjusted by the formula:
      Corrected time = Actual Time x 100 – YS
  • Adult handicap: 15 added to CT
  • Venturer handicap: 10 added to CT
  • Scout handicap: 5 added to CT
  • Note: due to insurance issues, we require that boats carry only the ‘rated’ (AYF) Crew – no overloading.

1st - 12 points 
2nd - 8 points 
3rd - 4 points 

Canoe & Fun Run

1st - 3 points
2nd - 2 points
3rd - 1 point

Camping:
Lightweight tents – no trenches etc
No fires – gas cooking only
All rubbish in bins please

BBQ:

A barbecue will operate on Saturday (lunch) and Sunday (breakfast and lunch), pay on the day.

Vehicle Movement Restrictions:

To ensure the safety of all participants and the smooth operation of the regatta, vehicle movements on site will be restricted to the following times:

Friday: 1:00 PM – 10:00 AM Saturday

Sunday: 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Outside of these times, no vehicle movements will be permitted within the event site.

Parking Regulations:

Vehicles must not park on-site.

All boats and camping gear must be dropped off at the designated unloading zone.

After unloading, vehicles must be parked in the designated car park or along Abbotsford Parade.

Designated Vehicle Path:

All vehicles must remain on the allocated path as outlined in GREEN the site map. 

The designated path will be clearly marked with cones to guide vehicle movement and ensure safety.

Vehicles moving around on-site must have hazard lights on and not exceed 5km per hour.

Vehicles may only travel between the entrance at the corner of Abbotsford Parade/Spring Street and the sailboat area indicated on the site map.

Bushcare areas:

Please be mindful of bushcare and regenerative areas outlined on site plan.
