Becoming an Adult Helper – How to Get Started
Welcome!
As a volunteer organisation we rely on Parent Helpers to pitch in and lend a hand. As we work around children, all Parent Helpers need to be registered as members in their own right to ensure we keep children safe and all volunteers insured.
To attend camps and activities this is MANDATORY so that Leaders know exactly who is attending, medical or dietary needs and that you are fully covered by activity insurances. There is no registration cost for adult helpers! Scout NSW covers the WWCC and police checks.
To make things simple, here is an easy step‑by‑step guide outlining the entire process.
1. Register as an Adult Helper
Begin by submitting your Adult Helper registration here.
2. Apply for a Working With Children Check (WWCC)
If you don’t already have one, complete your WWCC application through Service NSW.
3. Add Your WWCC Details
Enter your WWCC number into your Parent Helper membership profile.
If you already hold a WWCC or relevant Police Check, you can upload these during registration.
4. Wait for Scouts NSW Verification
Scouts NSW will perform a Police Check or contact you if further information is needed. If you don't hear back within 2 weeks - send an email to info@nsw.scouts.com.au
5. Receive Your Online Training Login
You’ll be emailed a URL, username, and password to access the training portal which is here and complete the two Mandatory Training Modules within three months and bi-annually as required.
Important - you must renew your WWCC before it expires and do your training before the due date otherwise your registration will lapse.
(Optional: Additional training modules are available if you’d like to continue learning.)
Once you’ve completed all these steps, you’re officially a qualified Adult Helper. You will have your own ScoutHub profile and can RSVP to events. We can also link all of your family profiles so that you can use one login to RSVP for each person.
